Comment: Abstract. In the Fasti and Alba Augustalium there appears the abbreviation dd following as a rule quinquennales title. There is general agreement that it should not be understood as short for d(ecreto) d(ecurionum), but as d(ono) d(ato), although no definite proof thereof has been produced thus far. Drawing on the evidence of other usages of the abbreviation dd, the present writer shows that the interpretation d(ono) d(ato) is the right one and explains the presence of such a formula at Ostia.
