Mosaic
General descriptionThe floor of the back room is covered with earth. Nothing has been preserved of the floor of the front room. Becatti suggests that the mosaic in 58 was continued in 59.
TextNo text has been preserved.
DepictionsNo depictions have been preserved.
Masonry
The back wall of the back room rests on a few layers of opus reticulatum. The middle part is of opus vittatum mixtum B, with oblong tufa stones in the lower part and small, square tufa stones in the upper part. The upper part of the wall is of opus vittatum simplex. The north wall is of uncertain masonry. It is not on the plans of Vaglieri and Gismondi, but is present on the model. The south wall is of opus vittatum simplex.
The room also has an east wall, of opus latericium, with a door in the north part. In the door is part of a reused, travertine shop threshold, with a groove in the south part, and a depression in the north part. The depression has raised edges to the east and north. Therefore the door opened inward. There is presumably a pivot hole, but this cannot be seen on the photos and should be checked in situ.
The south-east central column of statio 59 is preserved to a height of 2.65 (the upper part was re-erected). It has remains of smooth stucco, from the travertine plinth to the top ( excavation Pohl). No fake, brick plinths have been preserved around the central columns.
Interpretation
A special function was obviously assigned to the back room. It could be closed off entirely, and may for example have served as an archive.
