Isola Sacra - Central north part - Building and lime kiln [4]

To the north-west of the Basilica of Hippolytus a building was found of which the function is unknown. The walls are of opus reticulatum. A circular structure with a diameter of 5 meters must have been a lime kiln: burnt marble fragments were recovered from the surrounding area. Along the west side of the building runs the Via Flavia, the road that connected Ostia and Portus.
