The northern stretch of the Cardo Maximus was flanked by shops. The eastern shops are back-to-back with another row of shops, opening off Via dei Dipinti. These were numbered I,V,1. They were built during the reign of Hadrian (opus mixtum). All shops had barrel-vaults. Three of the central shops have doorways to the shops along the Cardo. Three external stairways led to apartments on the upper floors. |
