Cagliari - fullonica and baths

Not far from the harbour (Istituto Nazionale della Previdenza Sociale, Cagliari) the remains were found of a fullonica, a workshop of fullers. On the floor is a mosaic with the text M(arcus) PLOTI(us) SILISONIS F(ilius) RVFVS. It has been dated to the period 27 BC - 50 AD.

A few noteworthy polychrome mosaics have been extracted: two fragments of the floor of the frigidarium of baths found near the Santuario di Nostra Signora di Bonaria are in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Cagliari. One shows a Nereid on a marine animal, the other an erote riding a dolphin.
