Portrait of a woman (1127)

Found on August 21 1939 in a room below a staircase of a private house on the Via delle Ermette (between blocks V,III and V,VIII), near a niche (SO V), or found in the Domus della Fortuna Annonaria (V,II,8) (Guida). This is conflicting information. If the portrait was found in the Domus della Fortuna Annonaria, then the niche is presumably the small niche in a room next to a staircase on Via della Fortuna Annonaria (Bakker 1994, 236-237 nr. 83). This seems to be confirmed by the Giornale degli Scavi: "Da un sottoscala sulla prima stradetta che sta venendo in luce a partire dalla Via dei Molini [= Semita dei Cippi, the prolungation of Via dei Molini] proviene una testina marmorea di Faustina maggiore con volto levigato". The portrait indeed has the hairstyle of Faustina the Elder.
