Relief of a priest of Cybele with torches and Attis (159)

Found in the Isola Sacra necropolis, near tomb 75.
Date: third century AD. W. 0.40, h. 0.62.
Found together with inv. nrs. 158 and 160, and depicting the same man. In front of the priest is a statue of Attis, holding a syrinx (panpipes) and pedum (shepherd's crook). The statue is on a base in the shape of an altar, in front of a pine tree, from which a tintinnabulum (a wind chime) is hanging down. Note the grooves in the upper and lower edge, which might be evidence of a turning mechanism.
