Relief with a reclining Attis (163)

Found in the Santuario di Attis (IV,I,3).
Date: second century AD. W. 0.85, h. 0.75.
Attis lies dying below a pine tree, in which he was transformed. To the right of the tree he is represented again as a statuette that could be hung in the tree. Below his left hand is the mask of the river god Gallus, on the banks of which Attis died. Several animals are mourning the death of Attis, including a rooster, gallus in Latin (the priests of Cybele were called Galli, the main priest Archigallus).
