Statue of Iulia Domna, wife of Septimius Severus, as Ceres (21)

Found 17 January 1939 on the east side of the "Piazzale di Giulia Domna" (= ?), a few tens of meters away from the Schola del Traiano (IV,V,15).
H. 1.75 (incl. the plinth 1.95), h. of the head 0.27.
In the left hand are grain ears and poppies. In antiquity the statue was hidden in the ground and covered with a wooden frame to prevent intentional damaging. This kind of protection was seen several other times in Ostia, especially for statues of deities (Raissa Calza in SO IX).
